TV Casting News: Kim Wayans Joins Reckless (CBS), Lenora Crichlow Joins Untitled ABC Comedy

Kim Wayans has joined the cast of CBS’ drama pilot Reckless, which will be directed by Catherine Hardwicke, from a script penned by Dana Stevens.

Set in Charleston, South Carolina, Reckless centers on a beautiful big city litigator and a Southern attorney who struggle to hide their intense attraction to one another, while also professionally battling over a police sex scandal.

Ms Wayans will play a character named Vi, who is paralegal to our litigator from New York (the role hasn't been cast yet).

Cam Gigandet will play the Southern attorney.

Wayans was last seen on the big screen in Pariah, and on the small screen in an episode of Criminal Minds.

Brit actress Lenora Crichlow continues to push her way into mainstream American consciousness, as she's joins the cast of an ABC pilot from the Cullen Brothers.

The star of BBC Three's critically-acclaimed supernatural drama series Being Human currently in its final season) has booked a role in the untitled Cullen Brothers comedy which centers on "Terry Gannon (Maggie Lawson), a recently divorced single mother who temporarily moves in with her estranged father (James Caan), a beer-swilling former baseball player."

Crichlow will play a character named Gigi, described as a mom whose son tries out for Little League with Terry’s son.

Deadline states that Crichlow is getting a lot of looks for various pilots here in the USA, so there might be more casting announcements coming.

New Doctor Who Screen Pics featuring Matt Smith

BBC America has dropped a fresh crop of brand new images from the return of "Doctor Who."

The newest episode in the British franchise is called "The Bells of St. John," and was penned by lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat (who also handles the Benedict Cumberbatch/Martin Freeman series "Sherlock").

"The Bells of St. John" will introduce a new nemesis for the Doctor (Matt Smith) - the Spoonheads.

Following the premiere of the show - on Saturday, March 30 at ET/PT -- there will be seven more episodes.

This latest installment will also feature the Doctor's new companion, Clara, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman.

After the season premiere of "Dr. Who," BBC America launches its second scripted series - "Orphan Black."

BBC Doctor Who Sneak Peak

Doctor Who is to return to BBC One on 30 March in a modern day urban thriller announced today as 'The Bells of St John', as the first official image is revealed giving fans a sneak peak at what to expect from the epic new series.

Written by Steven Moffat, 'The Bells of St John' will mark the official introduction of the Doctor's newest companion, Clara Oswald, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman. Having already made two appearances last year, the opening episode will be the first time fans get to see the Clara that will accompany the Doctor across the series' eight adventures.

Set in London against the backdrop of new and old iconic landmarks, The Shard and Westminster Bridge, 'The Bells of St John' will also establish a new nemesis, the Spoonheads, who will battle the Doctor as he discovers something sinister is lurking in the Wi-Fi.

Steven Moffat, executive producer and lead writer, said:

"It's the 50th year of Doctor Who and look what's going on! We're up in the sky and under the sea! We're running round the rings of an alien world and then a haunted house. There's new Cybermen, new Ice Warriors and a never before attempted journey to the centre of the TARDIS. And in the finale, the Doctor's greatest secret will at last be revealed! If this wasn't already our most exciting year it would be anyway!"

Featuring a movie a week from a ghost story to an underwater siege to a period drama, the new series will also introduce new monsters, as well as bringing back fan favourites the Ice Warriors and Cybermen. (By 'movie' you mean 'regular episode'.)

Meanwhile the series' stellar list of guest stars include: Celia Imrie; Richard E Grant; Warwick Davies, Jessica Raine; Dougray Scott and Tamzin Outhwaite, as well as for the first time on screen together, mother and daughter Dame Diana Rigg and Rachael Stirling.

The 80s fashions of Cold War Soviet spies

In FX’s newest series The Americans premieres tonight) *(OP note: it does not, but you should catch up with the two episodes that have aired)*, two undercover KGB agents pose as a married couple living in suburban Virginia in 1981. Costume designer Jenny Gering talks t TIME about shopping vintage, drawing costume inspiration from Playboy and why early 1980s fashion is underrated.

What attracted you to the show? The fact that it was set in 1981. I knew most people would be expecting the high 80s look—bright neons, shiny materials—but the aesthetic of 1981 is a late 70s vibe: earth shoes and that kind of look. Because you have so many influences—from The New Romantics look from the U.K. to the conservative influence from the new [Reagan] administration—there’s a lot to play with.

 

What was the aesthetic of 1981? A warmer, more autumnal look. Corduroys and velvets and chenille and a lot of knits. The early 80s are so under appreciated! It was such a beautiful, tailored, sensual time in fashion because the fabrics were so rich and it was a much more accessible time than people think. We’re out of the big flairs, shoulder pads and all the stuff people think of the 80s. It was very much about fit.

It’s also important to remember the show is not set in the East Village—it’s suburban Virginia and Washington D.C. so you see a lot of fashion influence, but it’s trickled down.

Where did you look for inspiration? My crew and I have hit every vintage store from Brooklyn to Albany, N.Y.. We’ve gotten things, we’ve made things, we’ve copied things we love with fabrics we’re interested in. I’ve been conscientious to mainly use vintage, but we’ve had to take some liberties. When I first heard the job I went to my high school year book. I was 13 in 1981 so I just pored over them to make sure what I pictured was right on. From there, I went to looking at old catalogues, old magazines—you can’t imagine how helpfu Playboy as. Because ironically there were a lot of fashion spreads, and the ads themselves were so helpful.

Tell us about dressing Elizabeth (played by Keri Russell). Elizabeth is the classic hot mom. She has classic tastes, but she’s young and fun and hip. So she’s wearing beautiful high-wasted jeans tucked into high-heeled boots. She does a lot of blazers, sexy silk blouses paired with jeans. I was very much inspired by Charlotte Rampling and these cool, sexy women of the 70s.

Does the fact that they’re undercover agents add an extra layer to the way you dress them? I think if anything they’re trying to not call attention to themselves. They’re so indoctrinated into being American at this point that it’s second nature. Even though it’s a false identity, it’s a false character. So I don’t think they’re being extra conservative or American.

Grammys 2013: Rihanna, Sting and Bruno Mars to collaborate

So a Bajan dance-pop femme fatale, a neo-Motown crooner and a bass-wielding British titan of tantra walk into a bar ... or rather, onto the Grammys stage this weekend.

CBS announced Monday that the unlikely collaboration of Rihanna, Bruno Mars and Sting is the latest addition to the telecast set for this Sunday. Kelly Clarkson, fresh off her well-received (and live) performance at President Obama's inaugural, will also perform her own set. 

There's no news as to what the trio will perform, but they will certainly make for an unorthodox stylistic mashup.

The group joins a wide slate of confirmed Grammy performers including the Black Keys, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Frank Ocean and Elton John.

Also added to the telecast as a presenter? Beyoncé, who has singlehandedly dominated all pop-music conversation since her performance at Obama's inaugural. She followed that by going live with the national anthem at a Super Bowl press conference, then reuniting with Destiny's Child (perhaps passive-aggressively?) and generating enough heat with her performance at the Super Bowl on Sunday to possibly cause a power outage at the Superdome in New Orleans. Then she announced a new world tour.

CBS will broadcast the Grammys live from Staples Center on Sunday, except on the West Coast, where they will begin at 8 p.m. Pacific time.

Church Of Scientology Pays $8 Million To Run Commercial During Super Bowl

While the commercials that air during the Super Bowl always attract a lot of attention, one spot, in particular, has people talking.

The Church of Scientology paid nearly $8 million to run a highly-stylized, 60-second commercial not long after the game went into halftime Sunday night.

“To the curious, the inquisitive, the seekers of knowledge,” an unseen narrator says at the beginning of the commercial, which features a parade of attractive, and mostly young, actors staring at the camera. “To the ones who just want to know about life, about the universe, about yourself.

“Not cute questions, big questions, one’s that matter,’ the unseen narrator says. ‘To the rebels, the artists, the free thinkers and the innovators who care less about labels and more about truth,” the narrator continues.

What’s particularly interesting about the spot is that the narrator never mentions ‘Scientology’ by name, and it isn’t until ‘scientology.org’ flashes on the screen in the spot’s final few seconds that you realize it’s a commercial for the controversial religious organization.

The spot for Church of Scientology aired in several major metropolitan markets, including New York and Los Angeles.

The church aired a shorter 30-second version of its ‘Knowledge’ ad in select cities during the AFC Championship two weeks ago. The video ran on television for the first time more than a month ago.

The ad is similar to Apple’s classic ‘Think Different’ commercial from 1997, media observers noted.

The church’s current members include a slew of celebrities, including Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Jason Lee and Juliette Lewis, and Fox News host Greta Van Susteren.

2 Broke Girls' 2013 Super Bowl Commercial Sneak Peek

Sorry Baltimore Ravens and San Fransisco 49ers, but you're going to be upstaged by some girls on Super Bowl Sunday!

2 Broke Girls star Kat Dennings recently tweeted that fans should be on the lookout for an "insane and incredible" new promo for the CBS hit sitcom during the big game, adding that it will be "EN FUEGOOOOOOOOO!!!!"

We can now confirm that Dennings was definitely not overselling the promo, which is directed by famed director and photographer David LaChapelle, as we've got an exclusive video from behind the scenes at the promo shoot (which seriously looks good enough to eat! Cupcake porn, anyone?!)...

The idea? Turn a Brooklyn diner into a disco! "This concept was right up my alley," LaChapelle says. "It's going to look beautiful, the girls look beautiful, it's funny."

"We're pouring sprinkles all over ourselves and throwing things," star Beth Behrs explains, with Dennings adding, "It's like a living art piece." The girls rock some serious rock 'n' roll hair and makeup as executive producer Michael Patrick King wanted the promo to "let the girls be seen in a different way." Mission accomplished!

And if that wasn't enough of a tease for you, Behrs says, "I think [Kat] and I have gone to places today that we've never been before!"

'The Americans' Premiere Draws 4.7 Million Total Viewers

FX’s critically acclaimed new drama series The Americans got off to a strong start Wednesday night, drawing a combined 4.7 million Total Viewers and 2.54 million Adults 18-49 for its first-run episode and encore telecasts.

The series premiere telecast, which ran from 10:00-11:38 PM, delivered 3.22 million Total Viewers and 1.57 million Adults 18-49, which outperformed the premiere of American Horror Story in Total Viewers (3.18 million), and Sons Of Anarchy in Adults 18-49 (1.55 million). The first encore telecast of The Americans at 11:38 PM delivered 1.01 million Total Viewers and 643,000 Adults 18-49, and the final encore at 1:14 AM posted 470,000 Total Viewers and 319,000 Adults 18-49. The Americans topped all broadcast networks in the 10 PM time period in delivery of Men 18-34 (407,000).

“We’re very happy with premiere ratings for The Americans and, just as importantly, we’re proud of the widespread critical acclaim the show has received,” said John Landgraf, President and General Manager, FX. “We have no doubt that when we get the Live+7 time-shifted ratings from last night, The Americans will rank among the best series debuts ever on FX. Rylan Clark To Present Xtra Factor?

The former contestant looks set to replace Olly Murs



Rylan Clark is being lined up to replace Olly Murs on X Factor's spin off show The Xtra Factor.

The Celebrity Big Brother winner - who placed fifth on last year's series of the singing competition - could be returning to the X Factor fold as Caroline Flack's new co-host, and he says it would be his "dream job".

Rylan told the Daily Star newspaper: "Every series needs a bit of Rylan style. It's the dream job, especially coming from the show. Not sounding big-headed but if you talk about X Factor from last year there's three whose names you will bring up and I'd like to think I would be one of them."

Current host Olly Murs, 28, has admitted it is "unlikely" he will return to the show after two years presenting due to musical commitments.

He told Heat magazine: "To be honest, the way my career is going in terms of music and internationally it looks unlikely that I'll be able to do it. It's an amazing part of my career and working with Caroline has been great."

Rylan - who was mentored by Nicole Scherzinger during last year's contest - has already gained TV presenting experience after serving as guest entertainment editor on breakfast show Daybreak in December.

The 24-year-old star proved a hit with the British public who voted him the winner of Celebrity Big Brother last Friday night, defeating Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, Neil Ruddock, Neighbours actor Ryan Moloney and Steps star Claire Richards.
