Jennifer Lawrence Admits To Being The Unpopular Girl In Middle School

via glooce

The ubiquitous Jennifer Lawrence is on everyone's BFF wish-list nowadays, but turns out that wasn't always the case. The 22-year-old actress revealed to The Sun that she was bullied throughout her childhood, something that built her character and made her who she is today.

"I changed schools a lot when I was in elementary school because some girls were mean," Lawrence told The Sun. "They were less mean in middle school, because I was doing all right, although this one girl gave me invitations to hand out to her birthday party that I wasn't invited to."

But a Jennifer Lawrence story wouldn't be complete without a Jennifer Lawrence twist: "I just hocked a loogie on them and threw them in the trash can," she added. "Don't worry about the bitches. That could be a good motto, because you come across people like that throughout your life."

Lawrence also opened up about her new, slightly more grown-up status. "As for being a sex symbol, I don't think of myself as sexy and, obviously, it's not true," she said. "I'm going to try to push that out of my mind because it makes me queasy."

And if she is perceived as such, you can't chalk it up to trying. "The other day I had pizza for breakfast, buffalo wings for lunch and pizza for dinner," she told The Sun. "Probably my favourite food is a potato -- just a potato, because I like fries, boiled potatoes, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes."

GIrls Star Lena Dunham is standing up against Racism

via glooce

Lena Dunham is urging her fellow "Obies" to stick together as her alma mater in Ohio wrestles with reports of racism. The creator and star of HBO's "Girls" wrote on her Twitter account Monday after learning about racist graffiti at famously liberal Oberlin College.

The school about 30 miles from Cleveland was among the first to admit blacks. And the city of Oberlin was a stop on the Underground Railroad that aided escaped slaves. Dunham tweeted: "Hey Obies, remember the beautiful, inclusive and downright revolutionary history of the place you call home. Protect each other."

Racist and anti-Semitic messages have been found on campus, and classes were cancelled Monday after a report of someone wearing a Klan-type hooded robe.

"Girls" features several characters who met while attending Oberlin.

Jennifer Lawrence has her eyes only for Bradley Cooper

via glooce

Jennifer Lawrence reportedly ignored advances from Leonardo DiCaprio recently as she “only had eyes” for Bradley Cooper.

Jennifer and Bradley appeared alongside each other in Silver Linings Playbook and their portrayal of a couple who are falling in love has caused speculation romance also blossomed off screen. Although they have both denied they are dating, their behaviour at the Oscars last month – where Jennifer was named best actress - set tongues wagging again.

“They keep saying they’re like brother and sister, but anyone who meets them can see that their chemistry is off the charts. Leo DiCaprio was clearly hitting on her, but she only had eyes for Bradley,” an insider told Heat magazine.

The pair also attended a pre-Oscars party together, where they appeared just as friendly. They spent so much time with each other at the event other guests presumed they were an item.

“They were deep in conversation and talking about how they wanted to take a break after the awards season. Everyone at the party was talking about their chemistry; they really looked like they were together, but trying their best to hide it,” the source added.

Bradley, 38, has previously insisted that he is too old to date 22-year-old Jennifer. She has also insisted they don’t see each other romantically, claiming their chemistry is so good on screen as they have none in everyday life. Their behaviour has led many to believe they aren’t being truthful though.

“When they’re at a party together, Brad constantly swoops around the room to check on Jen – it’s like he can’t stay away,” the source mused.

Kelly Rowland Addresses Keyshia Cole’s Angry Tweets

via glooce

It’s been about a month since Keyshia Cole’s angry tweets towards Michelle Williams’ appearance at the Super Bowl, and Michelle sort of responded to it already. However, it’s Miss Kelly Rowland who really dropped ten tons of doom on Keyshia’s edges.

While speaking with Rolling Stone about her upcoming fourth studio album, Talk A Good Game, Kelly also tossed out the following classy dagger.

It didn’t even make it on my radar until other people brought it up. It didn’t even matter. We had a wonderful performance, and that’s all I cared about. I was with my sisters and the three of us matter to each other, and that’s all that counts. We matter to a lot more people, with all due respect, than her. So, I really don’t care what she said.

Now that is an executive read. Kelly basically said Keyshia is ash and DC3 is lotion. I love it. Read more of the interview here and prepare for the “Kisses Down Low” video to premiere soon.

Carine Roitfeld covers The Edit

via glooce

"I am not a self-confident person” – seven words it is almost impossible to imagine Carine Roitfeld uttering and yet utter them she does, on the set of the NET-A-PORTER shoot. The style icon, uber-stylist and publishing powerhouse is apparently not as assured as she always seems. That she has put herself in the public eye at all, says Roitfeld, is down to two men: “Mario Testino convinced me to put my style on a picture and that gave me confidence. Then I met Tom Ford. I had worked on my own for ten years and I never felt that confident about my style. But Tom was like my stamp of approval. We had the same ideas of fashion and about what was sexy. I was his feminine side.”

Roitfeld’s work with both – the trio collaborated during Ford’s 14-year tenure at Gucci and later at Yves Saint Laurent, with Roitfeld acting as Ford’s “muse” – is enduring. The campaigns they created, and indeed Roitfeld’s shoots with Testino for Vogue Paris, are referenced – yet never emulated – time and time again.

Of course, there have been other influential fashion editors, other stylists who create aesthetics rather than just interpreting fashions, but still Roitfeld stands out. Few editors could leave the “gilded cage” of Vogue, as she described it, and set up an entirely new publishing brand, as she has done with CR Fashion Book. Even fewer with such success – the first edition, launched last September, sold out internationally.

But why? What is it about Roitfeld that sets her apart? “Carine is the ultimate woman’s crush,” explains The Edit’s Editor-in-Chief, Lucy Yeomans, who set Roitfeld the challenge of styling her own look for the new season, by taking pieces from her own wardrobe and mixing them with her picks from the NET-A-PORTER rails. “Not a girl’s crush: a woman’s crush.”

Which explains why, when it comes to Roitfeld, the details are the most important thing. Today, those details are as follows: Her breakfast is hearty – oatmeal, a banana, blueberries and a Starbucks tea. Her outfit is sleek and entirely black. “I like black because it is easy,” she explains, referring to her Balenciaga pants as “jogging” (French fashion slang for casual tracksuit bottoms). On her feet, she sports furry, aprés-ski-type Céline boots (the snowy New York weather necessitating practicality) and on top, the type of tight, wool sweater that ballet dancers favor when warming up at the barre.

In fact, a one-hour ballet lesson now kick-starts Roitfeld’s mornings each day. The exercise is “difficult” she says, but she swears by its physical benefits, which, as her signature body-con style regularly reveals, are clearly working.

Her slight, toned, irrefutably sensual frame is all the more attention-grabbing because she is 58 and also a grandmother. Nine months ago, Romy, her daughter Julia Restoin Roitfeld’s baby girl, arrived, which the “birth” theme of CR Fashion Book’s inaugural issue commemorated. Roitfeld cherishes Romy. Her insistence that she is to be known to her as “babushka”, Russian for “grandmother” or “old woman” – her beloved late father was Russian – made the New York gossip columns, so shocking seemed to be the idea of Roitfeld embracing such a mature role. “Aging – I don’t like it all,” she admits. “I don’t care about wrinkles, I don’t have many. [This is true. She swears by facials and month-long stints at Chiva-Som, the Thai health spa her friend Kate Moss recommended to her.] But my body gets tired. So I do ballet to compensate for the loss of strength.”

Indeed, dance is the theme of CR Fashion Book’s new issue, released this month, which accounts for today’s top-volume playing of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. Roitfeld appears, camera-ready, to a fanfare of horns, prompting her to strike a series of graceful, balletic poses in a Saint Laurent djellaba. Swathed in voluminous dusky chiffon, she appears a regal black swan, heavy black kohl lining her sparkling green eyes.

Minutes later, that sharp, hawk-eyed gaze surveys the rails laden with new-season pieces as she contemplates her next look. Intently, she inspects the front, back and inside seams of each and every piece in the line-up, which runs the gamut from Altuzarra to her own Junya Watanabe. There’s never a negative comment or even a skeptical raising of her carefully arched eyebrows. “She’s a new designer,” she explains to a member of her entourage, who enquires about Alessandra Rich, after Roitfeld inspects a languid gown by the London red-carpet specialist. “Love!” she purrs, surveying a pretty pink Christopher Kane cocktail dress. (Roitfeld admits she mostly wears clothes by designers with whom she is friends.) “This is the pair I meant to buy!” she enthuses, placing her French-manicured hands upon Azzedine Alaïa bandage stilettos. “I love shoes,” she confesses. She favors Gianvito Rossi’s footwear because, she says, like Manolo Blahnik, he has mastered the skill for sculpting seductive stilettos, which are both “chic and comfortable”.

It was Testino, again, who prompted her to ditch her ballet flats and commandeer high heels. While the move helped to nstigate a new mode for the vertiginous decorative shoe, Roitfeld explains that, in truth, she gravitated to high heels for practicality and equality purposes: “Mario is so tall and I wanted to be tall working alongside him.”

Her style advice, as you would expect, is fearless. “Use what’s underneath – put it outside,” she instructs, assembling a Miu Miu look by placing a bra top over a sweater. “Do what you are not supposed to do, like wear white shoes all year round, which is what I like to do,” she goes on. “That is one of my tricks.”

It is not true, though, that she makes all her fashion choices without interference. The last word on a Carine Roitfeld look customarily goes to her partner, Christian Restoin. “I always ask him what he thinks and he might tell me not to wear something like a sleeveless dress,” she says. A fashion entrepreneur, Restoin founded cult label Equipment – best known for introducing masculine work shirts into women’s wardrobes by interpreting them in soft, washed silk – in 1976.

After featuring the shirts in French ELLE, where Roitfeld first worked as a stylist, she met Restoin at a dinner party in 1983. “This is a classic,” she says proudly – even though Restoin has long since sold the company – buttoning up a black Equipment shirt over a slip dress by Carine Gilson. “I am not part of the ‘buy and throw away’ fashion generation,” she says. “I have a respect for quality. I like things which get better as they age.”

Of that, Carine Roitfeld is a true living example.

Taylor Swift covers Vanity Fair

via glooce

“You know, Katie Couric is one of my favorite people,” Taylor Swift tells Vanity Fair contributing editor Nancy Jo Sales on the subject of mean girls in general and in response to an incident at this year’s Golden Globes, where Amy Poehler and Tina Fey mocked her highly scrutinized love life. “Because she said to me she had heard a quote that she loved, that said, ‘There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.’”]

Specifically of her dating life, Swift says that “if you want some big revelation, since 2010 I have dated exactly two people,” meaning Conor Kennedy and One Direction’s Harry Styles. Though she has gone out with some of the entertainment world’s most notorious bachelors, including Jake Gyllenhaal, Taylor Lautner, Joe Jonas, and John Mayer, Swift says, “[t]he fact that there are slide shows of a dozen guys that I either hugged on a red carpet or met for lunch or wrote a song with. . . it’s just kind of ridiculous.” As she sits drinking lavender lemonade in her “Tim Burton–Alice in Wonderland–pirate ship–Peter Pan” apartment, Swift continues, “It’s why I have to avoid the tabloid part of our culture, because they turn you into a fictional character.” When Sales asks Swift if she’s boy-crazy, Swift smiles. “For a female to write about her feelings, and then be portrayed as some clingy, insane, desperate girlfriend in need of making you marry her and have kids with her, I think that’s taking something that potentially should be celebrated—a woman writing about her feelings in a confessional way—that’s taking it and turning it and twisting it into something that is frankly a little sexist.”

Although one of Swift’s rules is that she doesn’t go into the personal details of any of her relationships, she authorized someone to discuss them with Sales. “He wore her down,” the source says of Styles, who allegedly “chased” Swift for a year. “He was all, like, ‘You’re amazing—I want to be with you. I want to do this.’” The relationship fell apart after he texted Swift to alert her of a picture on the Internet of him kissing a friend good-bye. They were “making out like with their hands all up in each other’s hair,” says the source. After Swift ended the relationship, he pursued her for the better part of a year until she finally took him back. “But the whole time she says she feels like he’s looking at every girl,” the source continues. And then when they were in London together he “disappears one night and after that it was like he just didn’t want to keep going.” Styles’s rep, Benny Tarantini at Columbia Records, said that all of Swift’s source’s claims are “undeniably false.”

“It was like a pendulum for her, swinging back and forth,” the source says of Swift’s exes, with all of whom age has been a problem. Conor Kennedy, 17 at the time, was “just like a two-month thing,” the source continues, and Swift “says he was awesome.” The source says, “She dated Jake [Gyllenhaal] and John [Mayer] when she was really young and they were in their 30s, and she got really hurt. So it was like ‘That hurt—this won’t. But then it did.’”

In response to the rumors that Swift was looking to buy a house next to the home of her then boyfriend Conor Kennedy’s family in Hyannis Port, Swift tells Sales, “People say that about me, that I apparently buy houses near every boy I like—that’s a thing that I apparently do. If I like you I will apparently buy up the real-estate market just to freak you out so you leave me.” Swift continues, “One of these things I say to myself to calm myself down when I feel like it’s all too much . . . If there’s a pregnancy rumor, people will find out it’s not true when you wind up not being pregnant, like nine months from now, and if there’s a house rumor, they’ll find out it’s not true when you are actively not ever spotted at that house.”

But Sales reports that Swift actually did purchase the house. According to someone close to the situation, she had been viewing the property with her parents for over a year under the recommendation of Rory Kennedy. In November 2012, the Cape Cod Times reported the house had been sold to Ocean Drive LLC for $4.8 million. The company’s filing papers name a certain “Jesse P. Schaudies” of 13management—Taylor Swift’s management company. Schaudies did not return calls made to 13management’s offices, but according to the source, the Hyannis Port house was recently resold. “It was like a house-flip,” the source says. “A good short-term investment.”

Rachel Weisz on her Broadway Debut: 'It's Confirmed'

via glooce

Rumors have been swirling that Oscar winner Rachel Weisz could make her Broadway debut alongside her Bond star husband Daniel Craig in a Broadway production of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal. During a recent appearance on the U.K. morning show Daybreak, Weisz spilled the beans!

“I am going to do a play on Broadway,” Weisz told host Aled Jones. “It’s confirmed. I’ve never done Broadway [so I’m] very excited. [Broadway has] this mythical shine about it.” Although Weisz didn’t confirm that the play she’d be starring in would indeed be Betrayal, it’s safe to say a revival of Pinter’s acclaimed 1978 play is the project she’s alluding to. No word yet on if Craig is definitely attached to the project as well.As previously speculated, Mike Nichols (Death of a Salesman) is in talks to direct.

Telling a story in reverse chronology, Betrayal follows Robert (presumably Craig), whose wife, Emma (presumably Weisz), is having an affair with his friend Jerry, a literary agent.

Weisz starred in the West End production of A Streetcar Named Desire. She earned the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Tessa Quayle in The Constant Gardener. Additionally, Weisz’s film credits include The Lovely Bones, The Fountain, Constantine, About a Boy, The Bourne Legacy and The Mummy.

Craig appeared on Broadway in A Steady Rain. Best known as James Bond in Skyfall, Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale, his additional film credits include Defiance, The Golden Compass, The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo, Munich, Layer Cake and Road to Perdition.

Johnny Depp serenades fans in small Washington State town

via glooce

Talk about a big Hollywood treat for a small Washington state town!

Johnny Depp is currently filming the upcoming flick Lucky Them in the Seattle area, and he surprised small-town fans when he serenaded locals in the town of Carnation while taking a break from work.

The 49-year-old actor apparently had no qualms about interacting with his starstruck locals, looking relaxed and content as he played guitar and posed for pics.

Local reports suggest Depp was filming at a small lodge near the town, located in the Snoqualmie Valley and boasting a population of fewer than 2,000, when he decided upon the impromptu performance.

And from the looks of his smiling fans, he certainly made their day!
