GIrls Star Lena Dunham is standing up against Racism

via glooce

Lena Dunham is urging her fellow "Obies" to stick together as her alma mater in Ohio wrestles with reports of racism. The creator and star of HBO's "Girls" wrote on her Twitter account Monday after learning about racist graffiti at famously liberal Oberlin College.

The school about 30 miles from Cleveland was among the first to admit blacks. And the city of Oberlin was a stop on the Underground Railroad that aided escaped slaves. Dunham tweeted: "Hey Obies, remember the beautiful, inclusive and downright revolutionary history of the place you call home. Protect each other."

Racist and anti-Semitic messages have been found on campus, and classes were cancelled Monday after a report of someone wearing a Klan-type hooded robe.

"Girls" features several characters who met while attending Oberlin.

Lena Dunham, the co-creator of HBO's "Girls" and star of a controversial YouTube video for President Obama's reelection campaign, took to Twitter on Thursday to refute a report that claimed she didn't cast a ballot in the presidential election.

New York political blog Room Eight reported Wednesday that Dunham was registered to vote in Brooklyn but did not cast a ballot in 2012. But, as Dunham explained on Twitter, trouble with an absentee ballot forced her to vote provisionally.

Lena Dunham does Twiggy for ‘Entertainment Weekly’

via glooce

Lena Dunham was one of this year’s breakout female stars, but for her Entertainment Weekly photo shoot, she paid homage to another female icon: Twiggy.

The Girls actress channels the ’60s star for the magazine’s Entertainers of the Year spread in a floral-print Comme des Garçons dress and dead-on Twiggy-esque hair and makeup consisting of a mini-bouffant and cat-eye liner.

And it turns out that Dunham was obsessed with her final transformation. “She loved it, she absolutely loved it,” Dunham’s hairstylist Rheanne White tells EW.com. “She was taking pictures of herself and she kept [on] all the makeup to go out that night.”

Brigitte Reiss-Andersen, who was responsible for Dunham’s retro makeup, explains that during Twiggy’s time period, imperfections were actually encouraged. “In the ‘60s, they weren’t afraid to accentuate what we might now consider a problem, to exaggerate droopy eyes, for example,” the makeup artist says. “They would go for it and make them droopier. I gave Lena a droopy shape and that’s what gives the look drama.”
