Matt Bomer Wasn’t Denied Superman’s Cape Because He’s Gay, Says Source

via glooce

In a recent interview, vampy romance novelist Jackie Collins suggested that out White Collar star Matt Bomer was passed over for the lead role in Superman Returns because he was gay.

[Matt] had not come out of the closet but people in the know knew he was gay,” she said in a chat with Gaydar Radio. “His auditiontape went in and he called up the agent. Someone didn’t like him and told them he was gay. They said, “No, no, we can’t cast you.’”

But a Hollywood insider tells E! that’s just not so, saying Bomer was the choice of director Brett Ratner and when Ratner left the project a new actor was pitched.

“Matt was Brett’s Superman,” the source said. ”He would never have not cast Matt because he’s gay. Brett knew Matt was gay. They’re good friends. Matt not being Superman had nothing to do with his sexuality. It was because the director changed.”

Oddly, the director who did take over the film was Bryan Singer, who is both openly queer and one of Hollywood’s most bankable filmmakers. So if Bomer was ditched by Singer because he was gay, that’d be some really fucked-up internalized-homophobia jujitsu.

We’re not saying that kind of thing doesn’t happen—some claim it’s gay publicists, directors and execs keeping the Hollywood closet closed—but it would be a reach.

And let’s not forget Ratner got into hot water with the gays not long ago for saying rehearsals were for “faggots.” So who did care about Bomer’s sexuality and who didn’t? And would a Superman movie do big box office if its star was openly (or even rumored to be) gay?

Matt Bomer leading in polls for the role of Christian Grey in 'Fifty Shades'

via glooce

While "Fifty Shades of Grey" fans eagerly await news promised by Producer Michael De Luca they have been voting in online polls, picking their favorite to play Christian Grey. Books and Review published a new poll that asks which fan made trailer, featuring different actors, best personifies their ideal image of Christian. As of October 3 the top spot was held by the video featuring Matt Bomer, which had 42% of the votes. A poll on The Daily Quirk also showed Matt Bomer leading the pack on October 3 with 39% and Ian Somerhalder pulling in a paltry 23%.

The role of the domineering 27 year old billionaire will be a tough one to fill. Women have idealized Christian Grey as the perfect man, easily overlooking being 50 shades of messed up. The "Fifty Shades" film team will also be faced with the challenge of convincing devoted fans to switch from their favorite to whomever they end up casting in the role. Fans seem to be split by two actors, Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder.

Matt Bomer, 34, currently portrays Neal Caffrey on "White Collar" and has described his character as a man with two sides, "the veneer of the charming, hyper-intelligent, eloquent, sly mastermind, but underneath, he was really a kind of diehard romantic who would go to any lengths to find the love of his life." This could show Matt's ability to play Christian Grey who truly leads a double life, the successful all-American entrepreneur and the BDSM dominant. Bomer has a devoted fan following on Twitter and Facebook. With sites such as Matt Bomer for Christian Grey liked by over 25,000 users, there is no doubt that there will be some disappointment if he is not cast in "Fifty Shades of Grey."

Ian Somerhalder recently won a very prestigious fan poll done by Katie Couric. The results were announced on her September 17 show with E L James there to hear that Ian is a true favorite. James also admitted to Ryan Seacrest that she is a "big 'Vampire Diaries' fan." The 33 year old star has the intense gaze and philanthropic nature of Christian Grey and fans have taken notice. Although he currently holds second place in both the above mentioned polls, his fans will not waver their support. One Facebook commenter said, "I can't imagine someone else than Ian for Christian Grey! He is so hot, sexy and has that mysterious look that burns you, like he's hiding something, he will be perfect!"
