Miley Cyrus is taking her post-Disney musical comeback very seriously.

E! News has exclusively learned that Miley has signed on with veteran music manager Larry Rudolph, the man widely credited with resuscitating Britney Spears' career.

The news comes a little over a month after Cyrus partnered with RCA Records to distribute her highly anticipated new album.

"Larry has the track record to handle an international pop star like Miley," says a source with knowledge of the management shift. (Miley was managed by Jason Morey throughout her Disney years.)

We're also hearing that the star's mom, Tish Cyrus, will remain her daughter's co-manager.

Miley's rep couldn't be reached for comment.

We’ve heard rumblings of a Britney Spears and Jason Trawick break-up for months, but now it looks like it’s actually happening.

Hollyscoop has learned exclusively that Britney and Jason are about to split and get this, Britney doesn’t know about it!

As a huge Britney music fan, I just want to put on a gold leotard and scream about how this is a sabotage to the princess of Pop, but let’s just stick to the facts.

A source close to the couple has told Hollyscoop exclusively that Jason has had enough and wants out of the relationship.

“Jason has told Britney’s entire family that he’s planning to leave her, so that Britney will have a support system when he breaks the bad news,” the source tells us.

Jason is reportedly waiting for “The X Factor” to be over, because he and her whole family think Britney will take the news real hard, and would rather not have her deal with it while she’s trying to film the show.

But here’s the weirdest part, Jason reportedly wants to remain her manager after the break-up. So basically their relationship will become strictly business. Pretty sure Britney won’t want him on payroll after he dumps her, but he has been great for her career, so who knows.

Jason used to be Britney’s agent, but when they became a couple, he left his agency in 2011, dropped her as a client, and solely became her manager.

A second Britney source added to Hollyscoop, “I haven’t heard anything about [the split], but I do know they are going on vacation together for the holidays.”

That doesn’t necessarily mean they are staying together. Jason could just be taking advantage of their last vacation as a couple or he thinks a post-vacation break-up will soften the blow. If memory serves us correct Brad Pitt and Jen Aniston dropped the big bomb on us a week after the holidays as well.

Britney said she admires fashionista Jennifer Lopez, because she is “a classic beauty,” and Sarah Jessica Parker because “her looks are really bright and funky and young.”

Happy birthday, Billboard's Nielsen BDS-based Pop Songs chart! Two decades in, the ranking continues to track the trends at, and reveal the realities of, U.S. mainstream top 40 pop radio. 

The week of Oct. 3, 1992, Billboard premiered the Pop Songs radio airplay chart, as then-new Nielsen BDS-based monitoring technology allowed for unprecedented accuracy in gauging the biggest hits on mainstream top 40 radio. 

The chart's 20th anniversary - it launched the week of Oct. 3, 1992 - also coincides with an unprecedented pure pop boom, as mainstream top 40 radio is playing more pure pop than ever before. And, as station ratings soar, such a focus on the format's musical middle ground is reinforcing that the format works best when deemphasizing such extremes as rock and rap. 

A year-by-year analysis of Billboard's Pop Songs chart reveals that pure pop - i.e., melodic, often synth-driven, uptempo fare from the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry - has made up at least 60% of the survey's total top 10 hits each year from 2008 through 2012 (from January through July annually). Last year, the style accounted for a whopping 79% of the list's top 10s - the highest percentage in the chart's history - as 30 of the 38 top 10s during that period fit a pop classification. 

Twenty years later, we're celebrating the anniversary by counting down the top 40 artists on the Pop Songs chart over the past two decades. We're also mixing in memories from those working in the format, on both the radio and records sides.

Billboard has chosen her as the top pop artist of the last 20 years. With only seven years under her belt Rihanna beat out veterans Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Usher and Celine Dion.

Second place went to Pink, and third place went to Britney Spears.

As far as her peers she toppled her bestie Katy Perry, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Chris Brown.

Part of Riri’s success can be attributed to her ability to dish out catchy hit after hit. Her hooks hook you. No pun intended. The chorus and hooks immediately come to mind when you hear just the titles of “We Found Love,” “Where Have You Been,” “Umbrella,” “Birthday Cake” and countless others. Is Rihanna’s formula for mastering an infectious song why she leaves her counterparts slouching in the dust?

Another component of Rih’s success is attributed to her devoted navy. Her mentor, Jay-Z, once said, “Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t.” Her chart numbers are indisputable. She has the most chart appearances with 34, most top 10s with 21 and the most No. 1s racking up nine.

Her talent or lack thereof depending on who you ask has been the subject of criticism many times. That hasn’t stopped the singer from putting out an album every year since she’s come out excluding 2008. Rihanna is a superstar, and perhaps always had the “it” factor that makes one a successful pop singer. We adore her. Do you think she’s the best pop star in the past 20 years?

What's behind the pure pop boom? It's no coincidence that 2008 marked the arrival of two of the format's reigning stars: Perry and Gaga. Rihanna, meanwhile, continued to solidify her star status as an almost constant chart staple, adding touches of R&B and reggae to her overall pop focus. Add the continued domination or resurgences in that span of such acts as Christina Aguilera, Clarkson, Maroon 5 (which, in recent years, has segued from rock to a more pop lean), P!nk and Britney Spears, and it's clear that pop became tops at mainstream top 40 radio. 

In turn, ratings have reflected that audiences' appetites for pop are robust. CBS Radio flipped KAMP Los Angeles and WXRK New York to mainstream top 40 in 2009, taking on respective Clear Channel Media and Entertainment-owned format leaders KIIS and WHTZ. In Arbitron's August 2012 ratings among listeners ages 6 and older, KIIS led all Los Angeles stations with a 5.5 share, while KAMP pulled a 3.8 share. In New York in August, WHTZ registered a 6.1 share, while WXRK scored a 2.4 showing. 

Similar battles brew in other large markets. In Detroit and Boston, CBS Radio has likewise switched WDZH (also in 2009) and WODS (two months ago) to mainstream top 40, again challenging established Clear Channel-owned format outlets WKQI and WXKS, respectively. 

Programmers' adherence to, and the availability of, pure pop music at the format has ebbed and flowed since Billboard premiered Pop Songs, born of then-new BDS electronic monitoring technology, 20 years ago. (Ironically, given its title, Boyz II Men's "End of the Road" led the inaugural list. Current No. 1 "One More Night" by Maroon 5 is the chart's 252nd topper.) 

While pure pop has comprised more than 60% of all Pop Songs top 10s each year since 2008, the sound encompassed just 41% in 1993, when R&B from the likes of Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson and TLC infused format playlists. 

In 1996, pop accounted for just 19% of all top 10s, as such rock/alternative acts as Gin Blossoms, Hootie & the Blowfish and Alanis Morissette became the format's - and the public's - flavor of choice. 

And, in 2003, pop's percentage rose to 45%, but the amount of rap top 10s doubled to 12 from the previous year, too. The heyday of 50 Cent, Diddy and Eminem at pop radio contrasted with 1993-2002, when no more than one rap title reached the top 10 annually. 

Since 2008, however, Rihanna has reigned with 15 more top 10s after "Umbrella," Gaga's implored us to just dance (while racking seven Pop Songs No. 1s) and Perry's tallied a record six Pop Songs No. 1s from one album ("Teenage Dream"). And, she, um, kissed a girl. Clearly, we've liked it all. 

According to Edison Research VP of music and programming Sean Ross, several factors have aligned to make for a current pinnacle for pop music. "There's less competition. R&B/hip-hop and alternative don't have the [ratings] influence that they used to, or, thus, the same ability to force songs on top 40's agenda. Only country has a similar ability to break new music and it's still viewed by most pop PDs as another sphere." 

Ross adds that mainstream top 40 has learned to cultivate its own versions of rock and R&B-influenced pop, allowing the format to sample variety without risking playing extremes. In recent years, he notes, the format largely replaced hip-hop with rhythmic pop from such acts as the Black Eyed Peas. Teen punk similarly usurped alternative at top 40, thanks to the rise of bands like the All-American Rejects. "Plus, R&B acts like Chris Brown and Usher are releasing exclusive pop singles for top 40 while saving their core R&B singles for that format," says Ross (who served as Billboard's radio editor in 1988-92). 

While the names have changed - Peter Cetera, En Vogue, Guns N' Roses, Elton John and Toad the Wet Sprocket inhabited the maiden Pop Songs chart; Miley Cyrus wasn't born until a month after the list's launch; Justin Bieber, a year and a half later - the survey continues to help guide pop programmers' decisions. "The Pop Songs chart came along at point when country and hip-hop were competing heavily with the format," Ross recalls. "It gave mainstream top 40 PDs their own chart to look at." 

Twenty years later, it continues to.

The X Factor could hardly have done better in enlisting Britney Spears as a new arbiter of who can cram the most notes into a musical phrase. Spears embodies as much of that indefinable quality that lifts a singer into super-duper-stardom, plus… well, she’s Britney, which means she brings to any professional endeavor that mixture of sweetness, shrewdness, nervous energy, unpretentiousness, and, occasionally, defiance that only finds its full flower when she’s trying most earnestly to be a surrogate for the masses. Which is what she managed to do on her X Factor debut, even while she was being treated like pop royalty. 


It built to her. She did just fine, rattling off a variety of “No”s to the punching-bag mediocrities the producers let in for comic relief, and offering sensibly measured praise and a few out-and-out raves the rest of the time. In other words, she didn’t overdo it, she looked comfortable, and I’m including the moment when she was confronted with an old duet partner, Don Philip, whose voice was shot.

It's good to have Britney Spears back. She's a star, whatever her ups and downs, and the originator of some of the most iconic pop images of the past 20 years. Yes, it's always good to know Britney is in the house. Or simply a house.

Now that I've been sing-humming "Toxic" for five hours, it's probably safe to start the recap.

Welcome, bitches, to Britney's new castle! Demi Lovato also lives there now, along with her father/brother figure and sex/romance consultant Simon Cowell. 

What I like about Britney on this show, besides everything, is her succinctness. She's brutally honest, never rambles, and -- if we're to believe the carefully edited clip series of some of her best letdowns -- often just says "No." one, two, or three times to get her point across.

Britney brings it: Spears was full of bubbly compliments ("flawless," "amazing," "I think you are completely and utterly adorable") and harsh putdowns ("you need a new teacher," "I felt like I was listening to Alvin and the Chipmunks," "I really didn't get it," "no, no, no, no.") She also wasn't afraid to mix it up with rude, terrible singers and provide a gallery of classic horrified/elated faces. But the pained, confused look on her face and her real talk assessment of former duet partner Don Philip's audition provided one of the realest moments on "Factor," or any competing show, in recent memory. "Your voice really isn't up to the bar of the standards of the 'X Factor' and what we want," she told him.

Britney Spears got down to business in her "X Factor" debut Wednesday night, dispensing blunt-but-fair rulings on some singers, cheery encouragement to others and even weathering a sad encounter with an old duet partner who was clearly past his prime.

Throughout the two-hour premiere on Fox, Spears cast off her vacant-eyed reputation and showed herself to be a pro at delivering the kind of deliberate, tough-to-swallow feedback that often goes unsaid during these kinds of reality competitions. During an early montage of her best zingers, Spears and the word "no" became pals, and she was blunt with oddities like 50-year-old Shawn Armenta, after he sang his own composition "Candy Girls."

Of course, one of the reasons Cowell is a gazillionaire is his ability to spot talent, whether in the music business or on TV shows.

The X Factor mastermind saw something in Britney Spears the rest of us were missing.

IVillage: She may not have nice things to say about everybody, but the Queen of Pop was an honest -- and entertaining -- judge!




"You're very good at this," Simon Cowell told Britney Spears at one point during the premiere of The X Factor (Fox, Wednesday and Thursdays, 8 p.m. ET). And he was right. 

The much hyped premiere -- typical for a Cowell affair -- placed a lot of focus on Spears, the most iconic (and expensive) member of his new judging panel. The first episode showcased a carefully calculated revamp, including a documentary-style feel in the segments prior to the auditions. But the addition of Spears (and to a slightly lesser extent, the bubbly Demi Lovato) was Cowell's ace in the hole.

When the four judges -- Cowell, L.A. Reid, Spears and Lovato -- took the stage, Spears was introduced last. And the camera's careful attention to her made it clear: Lovato is a fun, feisty spitfire, but Spears' opinions are the most valued. And happily, the 30-year-old pop icon rose to the challenge.

Judge Britney Spears is in control on “The X Factor.”

During the season debut airing Wednesday on Fox, the audience cheers her; Simon Cowell defers to her; and Miss Spears is crisp, if not a wit, in her contestant verdicts.

We get the pop princess who knows how to hold the spotlight, not the young woman who has struggled in her personal life, in the taped premiere of “X Factor.” Live episodes start airing in November.

Jitters may be making her matter-of-fact, and even stern, but she appears unlikely to morph into a Paula Abdul-style pushover even if she gets more comfortable. Her “X Factor” style: sleek, form-fitting dresses and an impressive array of frowns and surprised smiles.

Britney Spears and her fiancé Jason Trawick have revealed how their relationship went from business to pleasure.



According to Trawick, who previously was one of Spears's agents, the singer made the first move, he tells ELLE magazine in its October cover story.

"It was kind of one of those things where she moved, like, turned around, so we were face-to-face and then ..., " says Trawick, who became engaged to Spears last December.

But before Trawick, 39, can spill any more juicy details, his fiancée interrupts him, saying, "Okay, that's enough information, sweetie. It was sweet, just say that."

Spears, 30, is more straightforward when it comes to discussing her feelings toward fame.

"I guess I've been under the microscope so long that I don't even pay attention to the nonsense anymore," she says. "I gave up getting upset about things people make up about me a long time ago."

The X Factor judge admits that balancing her career with her life as a mother to Sean Preston, 6, and Jayden James, 5, doesn't always allow for high fashion.

"I love my jeans and my sweats – I'm really just a tomboy at heart. So it's really hard for me to be like Kim Kardashian and be makeup and hair ready every time I go out of my house," she says. "I'm not a believer in that, you know?"

She does admit to occasional regrets about her fashion choices. "When you do wear those sweats, you're like 'Oh God, I should step it up a notch,' " she says.

Britney Can't Get No Satisfaction

The first VMA broadcast of the new millennium was kicked off by Britney Spears walking down a staircase wearing a black tuxedo. Then, while covering The Rolling Stones classic, "(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction," she proceeded to tear off the tux to reveal a skin-tight, nude-colored outfit. Before you ask, yes, it was just as hot as it sounds.

Remember, this was back when Britney was best known for singing "Oops...I Did It Again" in a schoolgirl outfit and pigtails. This performance was the first public acknowledgement that Britney was no longer a girl, but we'd argue against the fact that she wasn't yet a woman.

VMA viewers were left wondering, "Who's Destiny's Child?" after being stunned with Beyonce's solo "Crazy In Love" performance. She took the stage with her future husband, Jay-Z, and performed a Bollywood-inspired mash-up of her hit single and "Baby Boy."

Why did Desperate Housewives' Eva Longoria decide to wear a skimpy, beige bikini to the VMAs? Honestly, we have no freakin' clue. But we do know that we're happy as hell that she did. Even though she was only on stage for a minute or so while introducing Mariah Carey, Eva's odd wardrobe choice made headlines.




TLC: The Leather Crew?

Year: 1999

In the late '90s, TLC was riding a tremendous wave of popularity. Their hit single "No Scrubs," which we can only assume is about the group's collective hatred of Zach Braff, was up for six awards. And though they only took home one moon man, the award for Best Group Video, they did unanimously win one unofficial award: The Best Dressed Group of the Night. T-Boz, Left Eye and Chili all looked ridiculously hot in their dominatrix-like VMA outfits.





Hips Don't Lie

Year: 2006

Shakira and ex-Fugee Wyclef Jean had a huge hit single, the soundtrack to the summer, "Hips Don't Lie." During the months preceding that VMA show, you just couldn't escape that song. It was played relentlessly on pop radio stations. It was played relentlessly on hip-hop radio stations. It was played in elevators and at the dentist's office. It was everywhere. So it only makes sense that the duo was asked to perform the song live at the VMAs, where we could finally find out if Shakira's hips were indeed telling the truth. After the performance, it was clear: no polygraph necessary. 




The Wet T-Shirt Contest

Year: 2005

This year, American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson competed in, and unanimously won, the VMAs first wet t-shirt contest. She performed her hit single, "Since You've Been Gone," amidst a man-made indoor rainstorm. We're glad it was her and not Ruben Studdard.




Rihanna Disturbed

Year: 2008

Rihanna was no doubt the sexiest woman to walk out on the VMA stage. Dressed in form-fitting black leather, this beautiful Barbadian debuted what became a monster single, "Disturbia."




That's The Way Love Goes

Year: 1993

Back in the early 1990s, when Britney and Christina were busy dealing with midterms and acne, Janet Jackson was the queen of bringing sexy to the VMA stage. Though it'd no doubt be considered tame by today's standards, Janet's exposed stomach and bra made for the hottest performance of the year. 




The Power of the Pasty

Year: 2009

In one of the most death-defying stunts at the VMAs, singer Pink wasn't the only thing hanging out. In addition to swinging around on a harness and doing acrobatic stunts to the song, "Sober," her left boob was also doing it's own free-falling with only a pasty as a safety net.




Off The Chain

Year: 1998

As if showing up to the award show arm-in-arm with the creeptacular Marilyn Manson wasn't enough, actress Rose McGowan decided to turn the weird up a notch. Before the big event got underway, this smoking hot Jawbreaker star walked the red carpet wearing a barely-there chainlink dress, and we use the word "dress" loosely. In fact, we take that back. Calling it a dress would be an outright lie. We're actually not sure what you call whatever it is that she wore, all we know is that if more women wore them, the world would be a happier place.




The Diva Striptease

Year: 1998

In the late 1990s, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston were two of the hottest solo singers in the industry. So, when they walked out to present the Best Male Video award at the same time in matching dresses, the audience was unable to stop clapping up their sexiness. Top that with Carey realizing they were in the same dress, and ripping the bottom half off to show off her gorgeous legs, then Houston following suit, and you have TV magic.




The Snake Charmer

Year: 2001

One year after her nationally broadcast glorified striptease, Britney was back at it. She performed her sexually charged single "I'm A Slave For You" while somehow dressed in less than she was the previous year, with an enormous albino python draped over her shoulders. Sexual innuendo, anyone? Just like the year prior, Britney stole the show. Ms. Spears can charm our snake any day.





All The Single Ladies

Year: 2009

Knowles is no stranger to the VMA stage. Beautiful B, never one to be Lay-Z, always seems to steal the show at MTV's annual event. But in 2009, while performing her smash hit "Single Ladies" dressed in a tiny leotard that left little to the imagination, Beyonce was at her absolute VMA hottest. It should come as no surprise that Hova decided to put a ring on it.




Like A...Virgin?

Year: 1984

Madonna, never one to shy away from controversy, decided to perform her hit single, "Like A Virgin," while wearing a lacy, white wedding dress with a "Boy Toy" belt buckle. And while in those days her wardrobe choice was enough to spark a decent amount of controversy, Madonna proceeded to belt out the song while writhing around on stage in the first-ever nationally broadcast dry humping session. We're sure the performance led to quite a few teenage boys touching themselves for the very first time.




Feelin' Up Lil' Kim

Year: 1999

Lil' Kim caused a stir when she arrived wearing a purple sequined pantsuit with one distinct piece of the outfit missing: the piece that covered her left boob. Yep, save for a matching purple pasty that couldn't have been much bigger than a silver dollar, Lil' Kim was a lil' topless. 

Later, when Kim and Mary J. Blige presented an award with Diana Ross, Ross opted to greet Kim not by shaking her hand, but by jiggling her breast. It was an unforgettable moment. We're just upset that the greeting didn't take off, rendering the handshake obsolete.




The Kiss

Year: 2003

This year's VMA show didn't open up with a bang, but with a kiss. Alleged archrivals Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera joined forces to honor one of their mutual heroes, Madonna. These two princesses of pop, each wearing sexy, lace wedding gowns, paid tribute to Madonna's sexy 1984 VMA performance with a cover of “Like a Virgin." And as if the inaugural duet between Britney and Christina wasn't enough to grab some headlines, business picked up when Madonna herself joined in on the action.

Dressed as a groom, the Queen of Pop exchanged seductive stares with her successors. Then, from out of nowhere, the stars aligned and something magical happened. On live TV, Madonna kissed both Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. We think that for the 10-year anniversary they should turn it up a notch and invite Katy Perry to the party.
