Kim Cattrall to get achievement award from Canadian Screen Awards

via glooce

TORONTO – “Sex and the City” star Kim Cattrall is being recognized for her body of work.

The actress will receive a special prize for “outstanding artistic contribution to film and television” at the inaugural Canadian Screen Awards.

The award recognizes “a remarkable person who has made their mark on the film and television industry.”

Academy head Helga Stephenson says Cattrall “is a fabulously successful Canadian performer who proudly embraces both sides of the border.”

The Canadian-raised actress is best known for starring as lusty singleton Samantha in the HBO series “Sex and the City” and its spinoff movies. She also appeared in the PBS mini-series “Any Human Heart,” Roman Polanski’s “The Ghost Writer” and the 1987 comedy “Mannequin.”

Cattrall was to receive the prize at an industry gala tonight honouring select categories in TV drama, comedy, variety and children’s programming.

The top prizes at the Canadian Screen Awards will be broadcast Sunday on CBC-TV. The bash replaces the previous Genie and Gemini awards, which separately honoured the best in homegrown film and television.

This fall, Cattrall will star with Don McKellar and Bob Martin in an adaptation of the BBC2 series “Sensitive Skin.” Shooting is expected to take place in Toronto in September.

Joan Rivers Refuses To Apologize! Rivers Slammed For Holocaust Joke About Heidi Klum

via glooce

Joan Rivers has never met a highly offensive joke she didn’t like!

With her razor sharp wit the comedienne has earned the wrath of the Anti-Defamation League after making a shocking Holocaust quip about Heidi Klum — but in true Joan style, she isn’t backing down or apologizing!

“The last time a German looked this hot was when they were pushing Jews into the ovens,” Joan joked about Heidi’s stunning Oscars night look where she wore a Julien Macdonald gold gown with a plunging neckline showing off her supermodel body.

The 79-year-old comedienne, who is Jewish, made the joke on her E! show Fashion Police during a segment about Elton John’s AIDS Foundation Academy Awards party — and the ADL was quick
to condemn her off-color quip.

“Of all people, Joan Rivers should know better. This remark is so vulgar and offensive to Jews and Holocaust survivors, and indeed to all Americans, that we cannot believe it made it to the airwaves,” Abraham Foxman said.

“There are certain things about the Holocaust that should be taboo. This is especially true for Jews, for whom the Holocaust is still a deeply painful memory.

“It is vulgar and offensive for anybody to use the death of six million Jews and millions of others in the Holocaust to make a joke, but this is especially true for someone who is Jewish and who proudly and publicly wears her Jewishness on her sleeve.”

Joan has refused to apologize for the joke, releasing a statement to ABC News saying: “My husband lost the majority of his family at Auschwitz, and I can assure you that I have always made it a point to remind people of the Holocaust through humor.”

Rivers is known for her edgy, often offensive humor, and is usually non-apologetic — but she does sometimes censor herself– as RadarOnline.com previously reported , Joan told Howard Stern back in 2011 that she once ditched a joke about First Lady Michelle Obama from her stand-up routine – because she feared she’d be accused of racism.

Recalling the wisecrack, the comedy legend said: “We used to have Jackie O now we have Blackie O!”

Rivers said she wrote the joke in reference to Michelle’s fashionable dress sense and was comparing her to former First Lady Jackie Kennedy Onassis.

“I thought it was a funny complimentary joke when she first came (to the White House),” Rivers told Stern.

“I think it’s an adorable joke… I thought it was a compliment!”

Dennis Rodman bonds with Kim Jong Un in North Korea

    via glooce

Ex-NBA star Dennis Rodman hung out Thursday with North Korea's Kim Jong Un on the third day of his improbable journey with VICE to Pyongyang, watching the Harlem Globetrotters with the leader and later dining on sushi and drinking with him at his palace.

"You have a friend for life," Rodman told Kim before a crowd of thousands at a gymnasium where they sat side by side, chatting as they watched players from North Korea and the U.S. play, Alex Detrick, a spokesman for the New York-based VICE media company, told The Associated Press.
Rodman arrived in Pyongyang on Monday with three members of the professional Harlem Globetrotters basketball team, VICE correspondent Ryan Duffy and a production crew to shoot an episode on North Korea for a new weekly HBO series.
The unlikely encounter makes Rodman the most high-profile American to meet Kim since the young North Korean leader took power in December 2011, and takes place against a backdrop of tension between Washington and Pyongyang. North Korea conducted an underground nuclear test just two weeks ago, making clear the provocative act was a warning to the United States to drop what it considers a "hostile" policy toward the North.
Kim, a diehard basketball fan, told the former Chicago Bulls star he hoped the visit would break the ice between the United States and North Korea, VICE founder Shane Smith said.
Dressed in a blue Mao suit, Kim laughed and slapped his hands on the table before him during the game as he sat nearly knee to knee with Rodman. Rodman, the man who once turned up in a wedding dress to promote his autobiography, wore a dark suit and dark sunglasses, but still had on his nose rings and other piercings. A can of Coca-Cola sat on the table before him in photos shared with AP by VICE.
Kim and Rodman chatted in English, but Kim primarily spoke in Korean through a translator, Smith said after speaking to the VICE crew in Pyongyang.
"They bonded during the game," Smith said by telephone from New York after speaking to the crew. "They were both enjoying the crazy shots, and the Harlem Globetrotters were putting on quite a show."
The surprise visit by the flamboyant Hall of Famer known as "The Worm" makes him an unlikely ambassador at a time when North Koreans are girding for battle with the U.S. Just last week, Kim guided front line troops in military exercises.

Steven Spielberg To Lead Jury At Cannes

    via glooce

Steven Spielberg is to head up the jury at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival for the first time this year.

The director will help decide which film wins the event's top prize, the coveted Palme d'Or.

He said the role was an "honour and a privilege" and also spoke of his own affection for the festival, which takes place in the glamorous French resort from May 15 - 26.

"The memory of my first Cannes Film Festival, nearly 31 years ago with the debut of E.T, is still one of the most vibrant memories of my career," said the 66-year-old.

"For over six decades, Cannes has served as a platform for extraordinary films to be discovered and introduced to the world for the first time."

Festival president Gilles Jacob said he had been trying for some time to get Spielberg to lead the judging panel.

"I've often asked Steven to be jury president," he told the festival's website.

"But he's always been shooting a film. So when this year I was told 'E.T., phone home', I understood and immediately replied: 'At last!'"

Spielberg has directed some of the best-loved movies in Hollywood history such as Jaws, Raiders Of The Lost Ark and Jurassic Park.

He has also won best director Oscars for Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan.

However, there was disappointment for the film-maker at last week's ceremony when he was beaten to the award for a third time after being nominated for Lincoln.

Last year's Cannes jury was headed by Italian director and producer Nanni Moretti, and included the likes of actor Ewan McGregor and fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier.

The Palme d'Or was won by Michael Haneke's Amour, a stark film about love and death.

Daniel Radcliffe might Play Igor in 'Frankenstein'

    via glooce

Daniel Radcliffe is in final negotiations to star in Frankenstein, Fox’s revisionist take on the classic horror story by Mary Shelley.

Paul McGuinan is directing the project, which has a script by Chronicle scribe Max Landis and is being produced by John Davis.

The casting goes against type for the usually clean cut Harry Potter star as Radcliffe will play Igor, the hunchback. He is described as pathologically dirty, with long hair and wearing old clown clothes. (A circus tone permeates much of the project, according to sources.)

A late summer production start in the UK is being planned.

Pregnant Kim Kardashian's Rep Breaks Silence on Baby's Gender

    via glooce

There have been all kinds of rumors that Kim Kardashian is pregnant with a baby girl.

But on Wednesday E! News spoke with a rep for Kanye West's girlfriend, who would neither confirm nor deny the speculation surrounding Kimye's baby's gender. The rep did tell us, though: "When the time is right, she'll confirm it herself."

Kris Jenner's friend Kathie Lee Gifford had seemingly confirmed that Kim was pregnant with a girl on the Today show Tuesday, but on Wednesday the daytime host backtracked. She just "read it like everyone else did in the papers" and clarified that our favorite momager never told her the sex of the baby.
Kim misses Mason and Kanye, tweets sweet pics

Meaning? The magazines have a 50-50 chance at being right either way, but for 100 percent confirmation we'll have to wait until Kim is ready to tell us!

Somehow though, we don't think satisfying our kuriosity is Kim's top priority right now. She's been busy working on the Kardashian Kollection, glamming up Oscars parties, hitting the gym and, of kourse, spending time with her fam.

Speaking of which, the mom-to-be and her sister, Kourtney, spent some quality time together Wednesday in L.A. Kim looked kute and sexy, showing off her baby bump in a patterned dress. She also added some edge to her look with a hot leather jacket.

Now that is maternity fashion done right!
