Break ups are never pretty, but a lot of celebs seem to want to conceal the reality of them sobbing their way through several tubs of ice cream and the Sex and the City boxset by pretending that everything is dandy and they're still BFFs with their exes.
But there comes a time when they just can't hold it in any longer and now Zayn Malik has 'fessed up about how crappy he felt when he and fellow X Factor contestant Rebecca Ferguson ended things.
There's nothing better than the gift of hindsight and looking back, Zayn's not sure that getting it on with R-Fergz was the best idea he's ever had.
"It was just a weird situation and a weird time I was going through being away from home on the X Factor tour," he told Now. "To get that comfort and friendship from someone was nice.
"But I think it was a wrong decision to make at such a young age. Then it did end quite badly so we don't talk any more."
Apparently the fact that she had two young kids made it more difficult too, as he explained, saying: "That was definitely unrealistic. That's evident now."
Although Zayn didn't want to talk about the split at the time, Rebecca was more open in the media about it.
He never felt the need to have his say though, adding: "I tried to stay away from getting into that because I'm not interested in the technicalities of whatever happened.
It doesn't sound like there's going to be a happy ever after in terms of their friendship though, and apparently the pair are more than happy that way.
