The unique design for which, the library is famous is ; the walls made in the shape of the books placed side by side, with the name of the book and the name of the author ingrained. The architectural bookshelf runs between Wyandotte Street and Baltimore Avenue, along the south wall of the Central library’s parking garage. The bookshelf is known as the community bookshelf. Each book design measures about 25 feet by 9 feet and there are total of 22 titles, which are constructed by keeping the reading interests of the people of Kansas city in mind.
In addition, the central library is also constructed by using state of art technology. The central library accommodates the major library departments such as Central reference, Document delivery, Special collections, Customer service, Youth services and various other administrative departments.
According to a recent survey, the library system counts about 1,147,278 items as its holdings.
